At Freedom Diabetes Management we believe in a holistic approach to improving your health and the health of our society as a whole.
We encourage you to bring a support person to both individual consultations and group education sessions. Diabetes is best managed with support from others so once back home it will be helpful to have your support person assist you in putting into action the plan made in clinic.
Freedom Diabetes Management supports you in building resilience to the stressor encountered when trying to maintain good health in the 21st century. We integrate principles from the ‘Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction’ (MBSR) course, created by John Kibat-Zin in 1979, into our consultations and group educations sessions. MBSR is a scientifically proven method that has helped people cope with stress, pain, and illness. Recent research has provided evidence of the positive effects MBSR has on anxiety, brain function, and immune function. To read more about the research and benefits of MBSR follow the link here.
We engage in research, surveys and petitions and to lobby and inform diabetes care suppliers, the National Diabetes Services Scheme and the government to make policy changes that will improve access and funding for resources. We offer our services to our local Frankston community, from our home office and the Frankston South Community Centre, to reduce the amount of motor vehicle travel required to, provide or access, quality healthcare. Our remote service, which is coming soon, will reduce the need for costly and time consuming travel for remote clients to access quality care. We promise to communicate and collaborate with your doctor and all other relevant members of your healthcare team after every single consultation. We do this because we know that diabetes affects the entire body therefore a holistic team approach is needed to ensure that you are continuously supported on your journey towards achieving your goals.
We are committed to donating a percentage of our profits to ‘Greening Australia’. Greening Australia develops practical solutions to some of Australia’s biggest environment challenges so that people and nature can thrive. We encourage you to send your unused insulin and supplies, to the charity ‘Insulin for Life’ or bring it to your FDM service visit and we will send it on. We also raise awareness of reusable insulin pens. We help interested clients switch from using disposable plastic pens to using reusable pens, decreasing the amount of plastic waste going to landfill. Check out our ‘Resources’ tab to find out more. We use a green web hosting service, engage the services of other responsible businesses and make business decisions that are guided by a sustainability ethos.
